Arsenal are one of the clubs hoping to buy Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote ahead of the close of this summer’s transfer window.
Several teams are interested in the Ivory Coast international, including sides from Russia, Germany and Spain. And according to the Express, Arsene Wenger is also keen on the robust midfielder who has proven himself as a Premier League player.
The 28-year-old is valued at around £8million and could turn out to be a cheaper alternative to Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira.
Arsenal fans will remember one of Tiote’s finest moments in a Newcastle shirt when he scored a fantastic equaliser as the Magpies came back from 4-0 down to draw 4-4 with the Gunners in 2011.
However, Wenger won’t be looking at Tiote for his goal scoring abilities, and will be hoping he can add a bit of steal to his midfield that has often come under criticism for being a bit light weight.
