Tottenham Hotspur
are looking to add Queens Park Ranger’s Loic Remy to their ranks in a
deal that could see Andros Townsend and Harry Kane go in the opposite
direction.
The Independent
reports that new boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen on the French
international after a quiet transfer window for the North London club
thus far.
Spurs have only seen the arrivals of defensive pair Ben Davies and
Erik Dier and goalkeeper Michel Vorm so far this summer, and the arrival
of Remy would give the team a boost before Saturday’s curtain opener
against West Ham United.
Impressed
The 27 year old signed for The R’s from Ligue 1 side Marseille for a
fee of £10m in the 2013 January transfer window. Remy impressed in his
brief time as a QPR player, netting six goals in 14 appearances, despite
their eventual relegation from the top flight.
The former Lyon man spent last season on loan at Newcastle United and was once more amongst the goals, finishing as The Toon’s top scorer with 13 league goals. A proposed move to runners-up Liverpool broke down this summer as Remy failed a medical with the Merseyside club.
Other reports link the forward with a move to Chelsea as
a replacement for Didier Drogba, who is currently out injured after
twisting his ankle in a friendly match against Hungarian side
Ferencvaros on Sunday. However Remy could still remain with his parent
club QPR, with boss Harry Redknapp hoping to keep the player.
Fantastic
The 67 year old said in his 666Bet blog, “I’m hoping he stays, It
will be like a new signing if he does. His attitude has been fantastic
since he has come back, so we will have no problem welcoming him back
into the side. If he is going to go, we need to know as soon as we can
so we can get a replacement in.”
Redknapp is also looking into the possibility of bringing in Townsend
and Kane before the end of the transfer window. Both players impressed
for Spurs last term, but at different ends of the Premier League season.
Townsend was a key player for former boss Andre Villas-Boas at the
start of the season, earning a call up to the England squad after his
impressive displays.
Later on in the season, after Villa-Boas’ dismissal, 21 year old Kane
was given a chance by then boss Tim Sherwood, and rewarded his
manager’s faith by netting three times in seven matches.
Redknapp is still looking to bring in fresh faces, adding, “We’re
still short, certainly need another three or four players. The chairman
is working hard at getting the right players in, but these things take
time. We can only spend what we can spend, so it’s certainly not easy.”
